Well,

- Sockets add capacitance (and inductance), which can adversely affect
some circuits. Check out "Miller effect".

- Transistors are so cheap, the cost of a socket is generally not worth it.

- Transistors can get knocked out of their sockets, so there is also a
reliability issue.
