Is this really an issue? All of the board houses that I have used (Gold Phoenix, Advanced Circuits, DDI, Multek) use the solder mask layer as a mask for the silk layer, so they won't try to place silk on pads. Because of this, I usually do a final pass once everything is routed to move reference designators and text around so they avoid getting cut up by the pads. /mike
