the reason is both economical and practical, since im not using
asterisk all the time, i thought it's a waste of resources if i
install asterisk on a dedicated box. but then file sharing is the
thing i use most of the time. actually, i installed asterisk on my
file server (it used to run on freebsd). its only cel700 with 256
pc100 ram, 30gb hda, 40gb hdc (dedicated for samba). i tested this on
asterisk only configuration and the outcome is satisfactory (for my
standard).
is it not possible to run both applications on one box or perhaps i
just missed something? help pls.
May I ask the reason of having both Asterisk and Samba together in a
single box?
I am experimenting now using AsteriskNOW which is a pre-built Linux
distro in itself that is a complete Asterisk system with everything
you need to use and administer Asterisk. I prefer to use the easy way
out. :).

installed samba also using the built-in script. but this
somehow created a conflict and now i cannot access my
asterisk gui but i can open/browse/write to my samba
share.btw, i also installed another hdd exclusive for samba
(hdc1) and did the following:
