hello guys!
Before I go further, let me introduce myself. I am Wendel "Shoogie" Abejo of
the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Cagayan de Oro regional
office. I am the coordinator of the Regional Information Technology and
E-Commerce Committe (RITECC) that looks into the concerns of ICT Region X.
Though RITECC has been here since 1995, probably this is the first time you
hear about this in much the same way that I have learned about yours just
today.
Pardon my intrusion into your group, but I think it is providential that I
"stumbled" into your mail group while looking for the best deal in household
broadband connections.
Anyway, I have been looking for IT practioners in the region, more
specifically in CDO, who are disciples of open source applications and are more
credible and got more professional wisdom to comment on the Free and Open
Source System (FOSS) bill. I hope to get a position from you guys on this.
Please feed back if you already have one or you are willing to take up this
matter. The RITECC would like to hear from real OSS users so that RITECC can
also give its own position whether to support or not the bill.
Moreover, i hope you guys, are all members of the Internationl Open Source
Network of the United Nations Development Program (http://www.iosn.net/author).
We need guys like you who can champion the cause of OSS for development. I
believe, one way to combat software piracy (which, i have to underscore, is a
CRIME next only to corruption) is to provide an inexpensive and powerful
alternative.
I think I have said much. I hope to meet any of you around in person. Here's
wishing that you consolidate and strengthen your group. More power.
Shoogie
P.S. By the way, I have not gone through all the message thread and profile
of your group. May I know who represents your group?
