UNSCRIBE PUD UY . . Di, joke lang. Hehe. @Jikjik: Don't "Sir" me, I'm still a student, pareho ra gani siguro ta. Although I'm a bit older compared to my classmates now, just recently came back to Comsci. Thanks to the "Sirs" here on the list.
I would also like to throw in "Ubuntu" as a distro. It's one of the distros na na-sulti sa isa sa maestro nako. Though I think there are others out there which are equally powerful or much powerful. You can either download a copy of the installer, or if you're patient enough, you can have an installer shipped to you for free. Every detail can be found at http://www.ubuntu.com/ . But I don't think I would recommend it installed by yourself if you're just new to it. It's much recommendable to have someone with you who knows how to do it already. But hey, if you're one of the few brave souls out there who would want to take the challenge, then do it. Kaya ra na bai. It would involve a lot of reading. It can all be found sa documentation sa Ubuntu.com. Labad lang sa ulo. Here are a few tips: The first few weeks or months using the system would be another headache also. Lisod pa sa sugod mag-adjust to the new environment if you're really new to it. Joshua is right, a good way around this would be to dual boot. From there, you can slowly adjust to the new environment by switching to Windows whenever you find some applications you needed not on the system, or some files that don't open up or run yet using the new system. Eventually, makakita ra ka ug equivalent application you needed dinhi sa Linux. And you also have to consider your hardware system. Basin naa kay mga pyesa diha or peripherals na dili compatible. I think what I'm saying here is just a repeat to the things written at the documentation found on the specific distro, so, I think I have to stop here and you go check out the distro's documentation first. Then come back here and ask questions. I think these guys here are willing to help, as always. About sa Java program nimo, I think there's a particular package somewhere sa Java distribution, if I'm right, that does this particular task. I can't really recall which one. The guys here probably know. I still have to review my Java when I finally have the time. [OT] I recall a few years back naa'y mga Linux Seminars that happened around the city. I can't recall if mao na ni na group ang nag-organize ato. There were several, I recall. My point is, how about doing those things again? Do we have the right people to do that? I would sure love to go if naa. It would be pretty helpful to people who would like to learn Linux, and for those who would like to learn more. -----Original Message----- From: Jason Yap <[email protected]> Reply-to: "Kagay-Anon Linux Users' Group \(KLUG\) Mailing List" <[email protected]> To: Kagay-Anon Linux Users' Group (KLUG) Mailing List <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [klug] [OT] I will grab this opportunity Date: Fri, 18 Sep 2009 15:03:51 +0800 Hmm for the basics in Linux, of course you need to install Linux. As what other posters said, any flavor or distro will do. But i think Ubuntu is the most popular right now. It has a great community. I recommend installing Ubuntu. Try to use linux everyday. Diha nimo ma encounter ang mga scenarios para matun-an ang linux. Diha ra nimo matun-an tanan nimo kinahanglan. Dula-a lang ang Linux. Sure ko malingaw jud ka. :) As for the Java, wala pa ko ka suway og password sa console. Why don't you try this: API: http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/io/Console.html Example: http://www.java2s.com/Code/Java/JDK-6/ConsolereadPassword.htm Hope this helps.
