That indentation was still being applied when collapsed, so deeper icons drifted right with each level and fell outside the narrow 3rem icon rail entirely. Reset the nested-ul indentation (and its alternating background) to flush/transparent specifically in icon-collapse mode, so every level of a sub-tree renders as a plain icon in the same column.
