Subject: [CubaNews] Hear Hugo Chavez:
Sept. 20 at Riverside Church!

To the Members, Supporters, and Friends
of Cuba Solidarity New York (CSNY),

Hear Hugo Chavez: Sept. 20 at Riverside Church!

On Monday, September 20 President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela will speak in a public
meeting at the Riverside Church in Harlem, New York City. This historic event will be
of great interest to Cuba solidarity activists and our movement.

We only recently received the confirmation of President Chavez's trip
to New York where he will be addressing the United Nations General Assembly on
Tuesday, September 14. This does not give folks from outside the New York City-area a
lot of time to arrange to attend the
event. In New York, a Committee to Welcome President Hugo Chavez
was established which met Monday, September 13. Cuba Solidarity
New York (CSNY) is reserving a bloc of tickets for our members and supporters.

You must have a ticket reserved in your name in order to attend the event. If you want
to attend, you must submit your name or a list with individual names of friends,
relatives, etc. to CSNY immediately. Tickets will become available on Thursday,
September 16 through Sunday, September 19. You can send your names and lists to [EMAIL
PROTECTED] and/or call Ike Nahem 917-887-8710 for more information.

The September 20 event will be a unique opportunity to hear first-hand
from President Chavez on the situation in Venezuela today; the
current challenges and perspectives for the Bolivarian Revolution;
the Latin American and world political situation; and the current state
of U.S.-Venezuelan relations It takes place after the tremendous
victory of Venezuela working people in decisively defeating the
Washington-backed opposition to the Chavez government in a recall referendum.
Following the mass mobilizations that restored President Chavez to power and reversed
the April 2002 U.S.-backed military
coup and then the heroic effort of Venezuelan workers to restore
industrial and oil production after the bosses "strike" of early 2003,
the latest defeat of the Venezuelan oligarchy and big-businesspeople
has led to their further fragmentation and demoralization; thrown U.S.
policy into defensive disarray; and strengthened the confidence and political position
of working people.

Among the central factors in the victory of President Chavez's government was the
inspiring solidarity from Cuba-with remarkable achievements-from some 15,000
medicalpersonnel and educators who have helped implement the "missions" that have
provided quality health-care access to millions of Venezuelans and who are wiping out
illiteracy in Venezuela as was done in the first years after the triumph of the Cuban
Revolution.

Leaflets for the event in English and Spanish are now available available in the FILES
section of CubaNews:

If you don't subscribe, just write to us and we'll send you a copy
of the leaflet which you can copy and reprint.

In solidarity,
