Senior Party Official Meets Singaporean Trade Unionists



Mr Pham The Duyet receives Singaporean trade unionists.

Mr Pham The Duyet, permanent Poliburo member of the Communist Party of
Vietnam's Central Committee, extended a cordial reception to a Singaporean
National Trade Union Congress (SNTUC) delegation in Hanoi on June 13.

The Singaporean delegation, led by Mr John De Payva, the SNTUC president,
is on a five-day working visit to Vietnam which began June 12. The visit is
made at the invitation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour
(VGCL).

Mr Duyet expressed his elation at the fine development of the
Vietnam-Singapore co-operation in investment and trade, as well as the
co-operation between the trade union organisations of the two countries. He
thanked the SNTUC for its assistance to the VGCL. He also said he wished
the Vietnam-Singapore relations to be further developed, thus contributing
to promoting friendly relationships among regional peoples.

The SNTUC president emphasised the close relations between the trade union
organisations of the two countries. He congratulated the achievements
recorded by the Vietnamese people during the national renovation process.
He said he hoped that Vietnam would continue to obtain greater successes in
socio-economic development and improve the living conditions of workers. He
said he wished that co-operation and friendship between Singapore and
Vietnam be continuously developed.

Earlier, on June 12, the Singaporean delegation and a VGCL delegation led
by its president, Ms Cu Thi Hau, held a working session. They informed each
other about the trade union movements in their respective countries and
discussed measures to enhance co-operation between the two organisations in
all fields, particularly on issue of worker�s insurance.

On this occasion, the VGCL and the SNTUC jointly organised a two-day
discussion on �Labour Productivity and the Role of Trade Unions� on June
13-14.
