TRIAL BY MEDIA STALKING

The Irish Freedom Committee condemns the mass arrests last week of
republican activists, timed for maximum public effect with tonight's
sensationalist trial by media stalking in BBC's Panorama broadcast.

Where normal due process has failed, the State has now turned to the media
in an attempt to rally mass hysteria against individuals who have neither
been tried nor convicted of the atrocity tonight's program attempts to
frame them for.

This tactic of filming individuals entering and leaving their homes, and
creating the inference of guilt through media speculation; borders on
libelous. When judicial bodies are not able to make their case, the media
is not judge, and the viewing public not jury; in any legitimate court of
law.
