                           PM praises outstanding coal staff

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai spoke highly of outstanding staff of the coal
sector who, despites many difficulties, always
promoted their heroic nature, had many initiatives to save expenditure,
increase income and improve the workers' living
standard.

Prime Minister Khai was speaking at a reception in Hanoi on October 26
extended to representatives of there Heroic Units of
the coal sector: Cua Ong Coal Manufactory, Deo Nai Coal Mine and Mine
Chemical Company.

The prime minister affirmed that workers of the coal sectors were still
facing many difficulties and their income was yet to
equal their contribution. Therefore, he said he hoped that the leaders of
the sector would study to put forth more suitable
regulations and policies, including labour safety, so that workers can
manage their work, increase productivity and improve
their living standard.

Prime Minister Khai expressed his hope that the Heroic Units of the sector
in particular and the whole workers in general
would bring into full play the tradition of revolutionary staunchness and
strive to make the sector's tradition more glorious.

He also said he wished that the Vietnam Coal Corporation would further
develop comprehensively and become a strong
group with lower cost price and high quality products in domestic and
international markets.

The prime minister also heard reports by the general director of the
Vietnam Coal Corporation and leaders of the three Heroic
Units about the sector's construction and development process in different
periods and achievements after ten years of
renovation.

Although the coal sector has recently faced with many difficulties with
stockpiled and high cost products, the living condition
of the staff of the Heroic Units was quite stable with an average income of
about VND 1 million per month.

                     Vietnam, Mongolia boost law-making ties

Vietnam always cherishes its time-honoured relationship with Mongolia,
including co-operation in law-making. Those
traditional ties will be a catalyst for the expansion of the multi-faceted
co-operation between the two countries.

So said National Assembly Chairman Nong Duc Manh in a reception for
visiting Mongolian National Assembly (State Great
Hural) Secretary General B Enebish in Hanoi on October 26.

NA Chairman Manh welcomed the working visit made by Secretary General
Enebish and said the visit was a vivid
demonstration of ties between the two highest legislative bodies of the two
countries.

He praised the results of a working session of the Vietnamese and Mongolian
NA offices and said he hoped that the two
offices would conduct regular exchanges of experiences to improve their
activities.

For his part, Secretary General Enebish thanked Chairman Manh for his warm
reception and said he was happy to have had
opportunity to exchange experiences with the Vietnamese NA Office.

He also informed Chairman Manh about plans for co-operation between the two
parliament offices in the time to come. He
conveyed to Chairman Manh the Mongolian NA chairman's invitation to visit
Mongolia. The invitation was accepted with
pleasure.

Earlier, during the working session between the two parliament offices,
Vietnamese NA Office chairman, Vu Mao, and the
Mongolian NA secretary general, B Enebish signed a document on co-operation
between the two offices for the 2000-2003 period.
