Anniversary of UNESCO commemorated
Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- Papers here today dedicate signed
articles to the 54th anniversary of UNESCO.
Since its foundation, UNESCO has functioned in conformity with its
mission and purpose, says Rodong Sinmun in a signed article.
It goes on:
Education and the international exchange of information have become
brisk and energetic joint scientific researches are under way worldwide.
A particular mention should be made of the fact that investment in
developing countries has increased and greater attention is being paid to
the problems of these countries.
Some western countries, displeased with this, worked hard to control
UNESCO activities under the pretext of the issue of its reform but their
intention was frustrated.
Minju Joson says that on the occasion of the anniversary of UNESCO the
DPRK estimates the efforts of UNESCO for human civilization and progress and
hopes that UNESCO will achieve greater success in its efforts to attain its
objective.

Seminar on Kim Jong Il's work held in Guyana
Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- A seminar on General Secretary Kim Jong
Il's famous work "Socialism Is a Science" was held by the Group for the
Study of Comrade Kim Jong Il's Works of the Amerindian Action Movement of
Guyana and the Georgetown Group for the Study of Comrade Kim Jong Il's Works
on October 26 and 27.
Robert Williams, chairman of the Guyanese National Committee for the
Study of the Juche Idea of Comrade Kim Il Sung, said at the seminar that Kim
Jong Il in his work proved the truth that socialism is bound to triumph and
clearly indicated the basic ways of achieving the victory of socialism.
Kim Jong Il's idea that it is the basic way of winning the victory of
socialism to strengthen the driving force of revolution and increase its
role is a scientific idea whose validity and truth have been proven through
the protracted struggle of the popular masses and the practical experience
of the Korean revolution, he added.
Peter Persaud, chairman of the Group for the Study of Comrade Kim Jong
Il's Works of the Amerindian Action Movement of Guyana, said that the world
politicians and progressive people, who were left without any faith and hope
for socialism, came to have firm conviction of the victory of socialism and
a weapon of struggle when Kim Jong Il clarified that socialism is a science
and it is bound to triumph.

Korea's army-first politics praised
Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- Miguel Mejia, secretary general of the

his departure from here, highly appreciated the outstanding army-first
revolutionary leadership of the great Kim Jong Il.
He said that the moves of the imperialists to isolate and stifle the
DPRK were totally scotched by his outstanding army-first politics and back
home he would widely introduce the shining successes achieved by it under
this army-first revolutionary leadership through media.
Noting that 2000 is a year for the DPRK, he stressed that all the
achievements made by the Korean people are a brilliant fruition of Kim Jong
Il's outstanding army-first revolutionary leadership.
Recalling that the international authority of the DPRK has risen higher
than ever before, he pledged to make positive efforts for the opening of
diplomatic relations between Dominica and the DPRK.

Ri Je Ma and medicine on four-type constitution
Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- Members at the research institute of
constitutional medicine of the General Hospital of Koryo Medicine in the
DPRK strive to make a wider and deeper study of the medicine on four-type
constitution, the constitutional theory native to Korea.
The author of this theory was Ri Je Ma (1837-1900), a medical man.
According to his theory, each man or woman is different from his or her
physical condition and their function of internal organs. So the method of
treatment should be variant.
In the course of his study, he divided the persons' constitutions into
four types - Taeyangin, Soyangin, Taeumin and Soumin - and on analysis of
their formal and functional and temperamental characteristics such as
external appearance, size of viscera, mentality, symptoms and reaction to
drugs.
On this basis, the administration of medicine was decided.
It is important to confirm physical constitution.
Ri Je Ma's medical theory gives a detailed explanation to physical make,
form and personal appearance, the state of physiological function and
mentality. It also explains the diseases of viscera and symptoms according
to physical types and medicines to be applied.
His four methods of medical examination include the classification of
physical conditions by looking hearing, asking and pressing.
The experts and doctors at the General Hospital of Koryo Medicine, who
developed the subjective and sentimental theory of classics into the
objective and scientific method of classification, classified people in
classical and morphological ways and by function diagnosis, blood-group
examination and reaction to medicines. As a result, the rate of the
successful diagnosis showed 90 per cent and the efficiency of administered
medicines rose to 85 per cent.
Based on such methods, the doctors diagnosed the diseases caused by the
weak viscera and administered medicines to patients, which have resulted in
the reduction of the period of recovery.
On the basis of such success, the doctors work hard to develop
four-physical condition-based medicine on a mass scale and make deep study
of how to eliminate the sources of diseases.

Unconverted long-term prisoner's note
Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- Unconverted long-term prisoner Sin In
Yong issued a note titled "Leaving over 90 years old mother behind in
south."
In the note he said that he could not take with him his 93 years old
mother when he was coming to the much longed-for DPRK after serving
32-year-long gruesome prison term.
He continued:
One should endure such parting for the sake of the country and
reunification because I came to the fold of the homeland where happiness and
peace are guaranteed under the care of leader Kim Jong Il.
The strong belief in the great leaders of the revolution Kim Il Sung and
Kim Jong Il made the unconverted long-term prisoners overcome all sorts of
difficulties and remain true to their faith.
Just as trunks of all trees and stems of all plants in the world are
stretched towards the sun, the hearts of the unconverted long-term prisoners
always went out to Pyongyang and they worked hard to have a mental pabulum
for their survival. We were not afraid of torture by the enemy but feared
that our faith might be shaken. That was why we got works of Kim Il Sung and
Kim Jong Il by all means and methods and avidly read them to train ourselves
and deepen our faith.

Members of delegation of European Parliament interviewed
Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- Members of the delegation of the European
Parliament headed by Jacques Santer, member of the parliament and
ex-president of the European Union Commission, were interviewed by reporters
at Pyongyang Koryo Hotel yesterday.
The head of the delegation said that the purpose of its visit to the
DPRK was to give further impetus to the detente and reconciliation process
on the Korean peninsula following the adoption of the historic June 15
north-south joint declaration.
The European Union intends to make a positive contribution to giving
greater momentum to the detente and peace process on the Korean peninsula in
the future, too, he noted.
He went on:
The chief aim of the delegation's visit is to qualitatively strengthen
the bilateral relations between the European Union and the DPRK.
He recalled that member states of the European union officially
expressed their will to open diplomatic relations with the DPRK. Noting that
the EU has a plan to render increased assistance to the DPRK, he hoped the
dialogues between them would gain in depth in different fields.
Pointing to the EU's plan to increase aid to activities of the Korean
Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO), he expressed his belief
that the side of KEDO would fully implement its commitment under the
DPRK-U.S. agreed framework.
