Tokyo, November 3 (KNS-KCNA) -- The Title of People's Sportsman of the
DPRK was awarded to
super flyweight pro-boxing champion of the WBC Hong Chang Su under the
General Association of Korean
Residents in Japan (Chongryon).
The title and National Flag Order 1st Class were awarded to him at a
ceremony held at the Korean Hall in
Tokyo on November 2.
Present there were So Man Sul, first vice-chairman of the central
standing committee of Chongryon, and

Lecture meeting on situation on Korean peninsula held

Pyongyang, November 5 (KCNA) -- A lecture meeting on the present
situation on the Korean peninsula
was held at the Conakry Embroiderers Training Center of Guinea on October 30.
The director of the center at the lecture meeting said that the
situation on the Korean peninsula is
developing in favour of the peaceful reunification of Korea following the
north-south summit talks and the
adoption of the north-south joint declaration and it was warmly welcomed by
the peace-loving people around
the world.
These developments are ascribable to the great leader Kim Jong Il's
warm patriotic enthusiasm and iron
will for reunification.
Following the north-south summit talks and multi-faceted exchanges and
contacts now under way
between the north and the south, I realized more keenly that Kim Jong Il
is, indeed, the great leader
possessed of great generosity, rare determination and extraordinary
magnanimity, he said, and went on:
Kim Jong Il saw to it that the north-south joint declaration contained
the first point which calls for
rejecting foreign forces and solving the issue of reunification by the
efforts of the Koreans. This was a
historic event that marked a new milestone in settling that issue.
He expressed the belief that the Korean people's desire for
reunification would surely be achieved under
the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Superiority of socialist system

Pyongyang, November 5 (KCNA) -- Korean-style socialism is winning one
victory after another despite
all sorts of tempests of history because the Korean people are firmly
convinced of socialism, says Rodong
Sinmun today in a signed article.
The Korean people grasped the superiority of the socialist system
through their life experience and
enshrined this faith.
This superiority finds its expression in the fact that they entrust all
their destinies to the socialist system.
It is fully manifested in that they are firmly defending Korean-style
socialism, regarding it as their life
and soul and displaying unparalleled devotion in their efforts to build a
powerful socialist nation.
The Korean people's faith in the best socialist system will always
remain unchanged, concludes the
article.

DPRK's invariable stand on its relations with other countries

Pyongyang, November 5 (KCNA) -- The DPRK highly estimates the
willingness of different countries
of the European Union to establish and develop friendly relations with it
as a positive development, says
Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary.
Describing the absence of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and
some countries of the EU as
something abnormal, the commentary goes on:
During the Cold War not a few countries took a cautious and hostile
attitude toward the DPRK as they
lacked correct understanding of it.
The official stand expressed by different countries of the EU to
establish diplomatic relations with the
DPRK reflects the trend of the present international situation toward
detente, peace, reconciliation and
cooperation.
It is natural and gratifying that they wish to normalize relations with
the DPRK.
The Worker's Party of Korea and the DPRK government identify
independence, peace and friendship
with the basic idea of their foreign policy.
Guided by this idea, the DPRK has developed friendly and cooperative
relations with various countries
of the world advocating independence. It has also consistently adhered to
the stand of developing
good-neighborly and friendly relations with those capitalist countries that
respect its sovereignty and are
friendly to it.
On this principle it has had multi-faceted contacts and dialogues to
develop relations with countries of the
EU.
Normalizing relations between the DPRK and EU countries will not only
give impetus to expanding and
developing bilateral relations in various fields but make a positive
contribution to guaranteeing peace and
security in northeast Asia and the rest of the world.
It is the consistent stand of the DPRK to establish and develop
friendly and cooperative relations with all
countries on the principle of mutual respect for sovereignty,
non-interference in other's internal affairs,
equality and reciprocity in the noble idea of the foreign policy.

"Combined anti-infiltration exercise" staged

Pyongyang, November 5 (KCNA) -- The "Paekma" unit of the South Korean
army staged a "combined
anti-infiltration exercise" in the areas of Koyang and Paju of Kyonggi
Province on Nov. 3, according to
Seoul-based Radio No. 1.
The authorities were reported to have conducted it under the simulated
conditions of a real war. Not only
the army but police, public employees and reservists were mobilized to set
up barricades at all the checkpoints
and conduct a check up and search.
This racket was kicked up under the pretext of someone's "infiltration"
in the wake of the "Foal
Eagle-2000" drill.
