Support SAMWU and IMATU strike against privatisation
Statement by the Anti-Privatisation Forum, Johannesburg
November 28 2000
The Johannesburg Council remains stubborn, refusing the demands made by
municipal workers two weeks ago. Khetso will not grant workers a job
guarantee. Because privatisation more than threatens workers' jobs, because
local government should still belong to the people, the Anti-Privatisation
Forum (APF) stands with SAMWU and IMATU in solidarity with their
strike on
Thursday the 30th of November.
iGoli 2002 has sold our public assets to businesses that have already cut
gas supplies to Alex hostels and defrauded the Council of R7 million. Water
services have been sold to a French multinational corporation that has been
thrown out of the city of Grenoble for making too much profit. No
corporation should be making money from Johannesburg's water!
Daily power rests with workers and within communities. Using this power,
iGoli2002 will be beaten. Support workers' demands for a better life because
it will mean a better life for all.
JOIN SOLIDARITY ACTIONSS IN YOUR COMMUNITIES ON THURSDAY [organised by the
APF]
8 a.m. Demonstration by the Soweto Electricity Crisis Committee outside
Baragwanath Hspital.
A BETTER LIFE FOR WORKERS IS A BETTER LIFE FOR ALL!
