Dear comrades and friends

We send you letters written by two soldiers, members of the CC of KNE,
that had been sent to and published by the Greek press, on the occasion
of the consequences of the NATO war against Yugoslavia and the further
facts that were recently revealed.

"Who does inform or ask the soldiers?"

Nobody has the right to silence in front of the crime which continues
to be committed. Serving in the army as a soldier I feel, like the rest
of the Greek people, resentment for the consequences of the cruel and
murderous NATO bombing in the neighbouring Yugoslavia. Today, all the
facts prove in a new dimension the consequences against its people, but
also against the soldiers who were called to serve as a supposedly
peace-keeping force in the region. The deaths of NATO's soldiers, the
cases of leukemia in many more, and mostly those that are expected to
appear in the following years, show the huge responsibilities that the
Greek government has, too. They reveal from a different viewpoint the
kind of "humanitarian mission" and "aid" they were called to offer,
continuing the war against the people of Yugoslavia and of the region.
Who of the ones in charge informed about the dangers? And whom? Did they
inform our parents, the parents of the soldiers and the enlisted
officers who are called even today to go or they already serve in Bosnia
and in Kosovo, with the temptation of the wealthy payment? Especially in
a moment that it is revealed that the ones in charge were fully aware
of these dangers? These days everybody (rightfully) talk about these
tragic developments. The only one that is deprived of the right to speak
is the one that is called, directly or indirectly, in the name of duty
to materialize these orders. He's the one that his life, as well as the
life of the Yugoslav people, comes last in significance compared to the
fulfill of the NATO goals. As a Greek soldier myself, I feel the need
and obligation to unite my voice with the voice of the Greek people for
the immediate return of the Greek soldiers from the Balkans without
being replaced by others. For the immediate withdrawal of the NATO
forces from the region. The armed forces of the country, the children of
the people that are soldiers, the army in order to protect the
independence and the sovereignty of the country. Not for the service of
the interests and murderous plans of NATO

"No Greek soldier out of our borders"

The devastating consequences of an unjust and murderous war which NATO
raged against the people of Yugoslavia and the peoples of the region,
take huge dimensions.
They affect all the peoples, they concern every man that wants fair
peace, that seeks friendship and co-operation of the people. They
concern all the people, all those who serve in the armed forces and
their families. They also concern me as a soldier; I cannot remain
silent in front of these devastating consequences and the ones to
follow. And even more, because the responsible ones for the murderous
bombings and the Greek government show that they are not touched by the
consequences of their policy. The present situation as well as the
future appear gloom and nobody has the right to stay passive. The
developments in Yugoslavia reaffirmed the character of the so-called
"peacemaking missions" and illustrate the aim of the try to form
professional- mercenary army in our country, according to the model
followed by the rest of the NATO countries. The objective is obvious:
the obedient realization of any commands. The "rapid deployment forces"
that are being created and will be totally constituted by mercenary
soldiers, will become "rapid elimination forces" not only of the people
but also of themselves. But the ones in charge does not give a dime for
them. The soldiers' fate will be the same with the peoples'. They are
been treated like a material for consumption in exchange for a "job" and
high salaries when in action. This was clearly proved by the
indifference of the ones in charge, the treating of them like being
guinea pigs, which led and will lead the soldiers that participated in
fatal diseases and deaths now and in the following years. As a soldier,
that I vowed to be faithful to my country, to protect the national
independence and sovereignty of my country, I am offended by the fact
that the armed forces of my country deviate from this goal by their
participation and subjugation to the NATO plans. I regard it my duty as
a soldier and a civilian in uniform to speak; To resist to the use of me
and my fellows as instruments for the promotion of murderous objectives
that are not included in the vow I took: So that the Greek soldiers come
back, so that others will not be obliged to replace them. So that
measures are taken in order to test and restore, if possible, their
health. So that NATO goes out of Balkans
