The queen of Canadian liberalism then went on to speak at lenght of "democratic" this and "democratic" that qualified all statements about societies, rights, etc. with the language of liberal market democracies...For the perceptive few it was obvious that instead of universal human rights she was expounding a doctrine of rights limited to the priveleged societies whose elites bowed to the neoliberal agenda that strings together the political, military and business classes of the great Western democracies. It was such an ideologically loaded speach filled with vague and amorphous terms such as peace, justice, democracy, rights, etc. She even wen't so far to say that prosecution of criminals was one of the highest forms of liberation. She also denounced constraints on the tribunal such as due process or the possibility of acquital "which could play into the hands of revisionists". It was interesting that she herself engaged in revisionism...glossing over terms people didn't know about she talked about the tribunal's record so far...how many arrested 40, how many convicted 14, and how many "provisionally dismissed" 4 (although the audience didn't know it this was Arbour's euphamism for the four Serbs who died in the Schengen prison under the Hague's custody). Arbour also derided those who committ attrocities in the name of "alleged historical grievence" as if the genocide of Serbs under the fascist occupation of puppet regimes in Croatia, Germany, Italy, Hungary, and Bulgaria was a debatable historical occurence! She was praised to the heavens by the introductory and concluding speakers, the litany of glowing compliments she received filled her head as everyone in the room beamed with joy at the great liberal sensibilities of their own, laughing with her as she was informed by some lowly UN diplomat that UN peacekeepers were not meant to be policeman although she knew better than he....Oh how grand to be a liberal, and then afterwards one could attend the glorious reception with all of Toronto's political elite sponsored by Toronto Dominion Bank as all types of adherents of the new faith gathered to talk with the Eagle herself, listen to her words of wisdom, her firm determination in the hands of advirsity, her ability to do so much with a budget of ONLY 95 million US$...and then the students...ah! those well meaning young liberals, how they beamed "Wow! Kole, did you see that? Wasn't that amazing"; "She is such an intelligent woman"; "She's so little, but her bravery makes up for it all"....There were of course no questions, those that disagreed could only keep silent, it wouldn't be "appropriate" to harrass the exalted Eagle whose humanism made us all blush before her like the great monarchs of past centuries. Yes she shamelessly defended "Western legal imperialism" (her words) but why not, after-all aren't we the most exulted of creatures in our ergonomically designed living environments, and our sensitive digital bliss??? Joy to be Western....and I continue to subject myself to such shameless displays of self-righteous neoliberal chest-thumping? Why? All of us Serbs just kept quiet (there was at least fifty if not more spread out in the auditorium)....was there a point in taking? One person yelled something...but nobody heard them and the liberals just shook there heads at the "inappropiatness" of such a gesture while they ignore how their armies stalked through foreign neighborhoods spreading death and dispair...But one chooses to be blind to the racism in the room....and the Serbs all felt like shit, they couldn't get angry b/c this would just confirm the image of them as "dirty drunken Balkan peasants" or what Carlos Westendorp, the colonial governor of Bosnia dubbed, "animals clinging to their turf" (in reference to the locally elected representatives in Bosnia that opposed his imperial impositions)...and thus we balance ourselves on the edge of a millenium looking to the 1000 year peace of the brave new imperialists...oh yes my friend imperialism is back with a vengeance it is openly proclaimed and celebrate, racism too is back and before long monarchy itself will return as the night sets on a brief era of human emancipation (1960s and 1970s), while our elites imagine themselves bringing light to all they touch in the manichaen world of good and evil they have constructed for themselves...the purity of reason and ideological uniformity is the gift of the Gods who are now dead to be replaced by their newly exulted counterparts... solidarity!
