Falun Gong-Bewitched Mothers "My child and I almost fell into the same dreadful suicide as Chen Siying and her mother Liu Chunling without the government's help," Yan Baoshuang, a former Falun Gong member, cried her heart out while watching 12-year-old Chen Siying's scorched face and hands on a TV program featuring seven Falun Gong practitioners' suicide attempt at Tian'anmen Square on January 23. Liu Chunling, 36, a Falun Gong activist, set herself on fire and was burnt to death on the eve of the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year. Her daughter Liu Siying also suffered from the same ordeal. The girl, with severe burns to her face, head, hands and tracheas, is now hospitalized in Beijing. Yan Baoshuang, an 36-year-old divorcee and the mother of a 12- year-old son, joined the evil Falun Gong cult in 1999. She tried to indoctrinate her son with the Falun Gong doctrine and even enticed him to go along with her to Zhongnanhai, the site of the central government, and Tian'anmen Square to "protect the heresy" that year. "It's me who almost ruined my son's bright life," Yan said, recalling her past nightmare and burst into tears again. On May 2 last year, Yan once again led her son to Tian'anmen Square. She instigated him to hold up a 13-meter-long banner with her to advocate Falun Gong, believing that they will consummate their practice. Yan was caught by police that day and was given to one-year detention in a penitentiary for labor education and rehabilitation. Believing everything in the prison as evil, she was determined to fight against the education program. "But penitentiary instructors' earnest education and warmhearted attitudes gradually changed my mind," said Yan. "Li Hongzhi is a super cheater, what he has preached was completely self-contradictory." Having abandoned the Falun Gong, Yan began converting her son's mind through letters and phone calls. Now her son is making progress in his studies and has a better attitude towards life in general. Apart from saving her own son, Yan also assisted the penitentiary staff in educating other Falun Gong believers with her own experiences. She use to spend six days to uncover the real evil nature of the Falun Gong cult to an female member, which helped the woman turn away from the cult and its beliefs. Yan said children are too young to distinguish between evil and justice, it was their parents' fault to make them believe in these malicious heretical ideas. "Falun Gong heathens, please break off the black magic and save your own children from its' soul-destroying evil fallacy," she called out with emotion. Injured Liu Siying is confined to hospital bed now, not able to enjoy the warming weather of the coming spring. But Yan Baoshuang' s son has recovered and went back to living a normal healthy life like most Chinese children. **** Tianjin Youngsters Vow to Combat Cult Some one thousand young people assembled together Friday in north China's Tianjin Municipality to declare war against Falun Gong. The conference kicked off a unified anti-cult campaign by youngsters in the Municipality. The young people urged their peers to make strenuous efforts to improve scientific and cultural knowledge and to act as an important power to lead the Municipality's anti-cult endeavors. Sources said that the Municipality's youth leagues at various levels have devoted a large amount of energy to organize local youth to fight against Falun Gong and to transform cult practitioners. The newly launched campaign aims to lead young people to expose Falun Gong's vicious nature and to have more people join in the fight against Falun Gong. **** Commentary on Evil Nature of Falun Gong: People's Daily Our Daily, China's leading newspaper, published a byline commentary Friday, denouncing the evil nature of the Falun Gong cult which suborned five practitioners to set themselves on fire in Tiananmen Square on January 23. The suicidal attempts, which left one dead and four others seriously injured, were a terrible tragedy on the eve of the Chinese New Year, says the commentator. Similar to other evil cults worldwide, Falun Gong idolizes its ringleader, Li Hongzhi, who fled to the United States, tortures human life, endangers the whole society and infringes on human rights, the article says. Since founding Falun Gong, Li has carried out spiritual worship for himself and disseminated malicious theories of doomsday and sin eradication among practitioners. Li fabricates malicious fallacies and proclaims that the law of Falun is a kind of supernatural science. Under the disguise of pursuing truthfulness, goodness and forbearance, the cult leader advocates fatalism and organizes underground activities in order to subvert the government, the commentary says. The Falun Gong cult attempts to spiritually control its practitioners, many of whom have gone too far and become maniacal, the writer says. Before the ban on Falun Gong, many of its members beguiled by Li refused to take medicine when ill and some even committed suicide. Official statistics show that in the last couple of years, more than 1,600 Falun Gong practitioners have died unnatural deaths throughout the country, which has affected thousands of families. On April 5, 2000, a Falun Gong practitioner in Jiutaihe City, northeast Jilin Province, burnt himself to death, leaving only a letter to his wife and family. In the suicide incident in Tiananmen Square on January 23, the cult bewitched a 19 year old college student and a 12-year-old girl to set themselves on fire. The Chinese government announced on July 22, 1999 that Falun Gong is an evil cult, and afterwards began operating crackdown activities. After meticulous education and persuasion by various levels of governments, most of the Falun Gong practitioners left the cult and began to live a normal life again. A retired shoe-maker in Baicheng City, Jilin Province, finally revealed the falsehood of Li's so-called principles such as truthfulness, goodness and forbearance. While Falun Gong believers shed blood in China, Li and his family have led a luxurious life in the United States, with the money they gained through cheating practitioners and other benefactors, the newspaper says. A Beijing Economics College graduate was formerly a die-hard member of Falun Gong. She gradually became suspect of her beliefs and discovered the evil nature of the cult. After learning of some incidents involving suicide, she said that she is really happy to be responsible to her family, the state and society, the commentary says. In tandem with striking against the cult, the Chinese government is foiling Li Hongzhi's ugly attempts. The cult leader throws himself into the lap of Western anti-China forces and acts as their tool for subverting the Chinese government. Meanwhile, he continues cheating his followers through the Internet and provokes them to sacrifice their lives for his ulterior political motives.
