Subject: [CubaNews] Fidel: "I''m just fine!"

GRANMA June 27, 2001
'I'm just fine!''
WITH his habitual determination and the unyielding spirit
dating back to his days as a guerrilla fighter, President
Fidel Castro quickly recovered from a fainting spell, caused
by the intense sunlight and suffocating heat, which he
suffered during this speech on Saturday, June 23, in the
Havana neighborhood of Cotorro.

At the moment Fidel flagged, Foreign Minister Felipe Prez
Roque took the rostrum and explained to the 60,000 Cubans
gathered there and the millions following the rally on
television and radio and Fidel had worked hard the previous
evening and even into the early hours of the morning.

At the end of the rally's rebroadcast starting at 4 p.m.,
Fidel - obviously in a good mood - resumed his speech at the
television studio. "it's my fault," he said, "because I wanted
to present so many facts, documents, reconstruct events and
touch on more subjects. I underestimated the heat."

Concerning the Miami mafia, he joked that unfortunately they
wouldn't be able to celebrate with all their bottled of rum or
whiskey.

His speech at the televised roundtable, attended by Vice
President Ral Castro and other leaders, lasted over two
hours.
