From: eva.bjorklund Sent: Tuesday, July 03, 2001 1:26 PM Subject: Human rights 4 july Equal rights for all peoples For them the Swedish anti-imperialist peace and solidarity movement celebrate the 4 July as a freedom day directed against the US global violations of human rights, with the following platform: All men are created equal. They all have certain unalienable Rights, and among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. And it is the right of the People to elect the Government which is most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. On these words the USA was founded 225 years ago. But the worlds strongest state was built upon mass annihilation of indigenous populations, centuries of slavery and plunder of the resources of other countries. When the power elite of the USA today refer to the independence declaration, it is a mockery of those who are fighting for survival in face of US economic and military encroachment around the world. It is also a scorn of minorities and poor people in the USA. What is peace on US conditions? As only remaining superpower the USA aspires global control. With stronger military force than the rest o the world together USA through its mass media hegemony presents itself as champion of democracy and human rights. But among "the best friends" of the USA are the worst tyrants, thieves and murderers of the last decades: Pinochet, Mobutu, Feisal, Suharto and others. The USA inforces "peace"-treaties where power is right and powerlessness a crime and allows itself to invade other countries militarily and economically. The USA tries to force the international community to surrender to their interests and punish countries that commerce with Cuba. In stead of lifting the blockade on Cuba as demanded by the UN, the USA tries to strengthen it. Outlaw global police The USA leads the arms race aspiring capacity to fight two wars simultaneously anywhere in the world, especially in the third world, where popular demands of economic independence and development threatens the rich world. The USA expanded NATO rule in Europe through "Partnership for Peace" and went on to undeclared war and terror bombings against Yugoslavia and a new aggressive NATO strategy throughout the world. The USA controls the oil in the Middle East with military bases and massive arms export to Israel, Turkey and other bridgeheads. They train the security forces in their client states to repress democratic and political movements for independence. Only with the US support can Israel implement its apartheid policy, the blockade and murder against those who oppose the occupation of their land. Kurds and west-saharians are also among today�s victims of this policy, the same policy that USA since decades has implemented in its "backyard" Latin America, now threatened by militarization through the Colombia Plan. Through the World Bank and the IMF the USA enforces so called structural reforms in the poor countries, conducing billions of people to starvation, poverty and to environmental destruction. Through threats and blackmail the USA corrupts the UN to a tool for world control, only to neglect it when necessary to go to war. Nuclear arms and risk for war The USA world order increases the risk for war by maintaining and widening the global differences and the threat to the environment. The rich world, with the USA on the lead, constitutes less than 20 % of the world population but consumes more than 80 % of its resources. Enormous arsenals of arms are needed to maintain such outrageous injustice. The treaty on non proliferation of nuclear arms enforced by the peace forces of the world is mocked by the USA through the development of advanced technology for nuclear tests in laboratories, now followed by the missile defence. With a nuclear based infrastructure of military force and economic power through out the world t he USA blackmails the poor peoples to abstain from any claim of their human rights to life, health, education, work, housing and participation in democratic rule. Fight for justice, freedom and bread The US declaration of independence and the UN declaration on human rights constitute a defence for the damned of the earth, for the nations right to control their natural resources, for a just economic world order, for freedom and democracy. Therefore we celebrate the 4 July as a freedom day directed against the US global violations of human rights.
