"Our organization has made public its proposal for UNIFIED ACTIONS to be undertaken with the indigenous movement and other social movements for August 8th, in order to bring together all of the current actions going on in the country into a GENERAL STRIKE that would demand increased wages and salaries, be against PRIVATIZATIONS and the selling-off of electrical companies, stand in defense of the IESS and call for an end to the further channeling of desperately needed public money into the pockets of corrupt bankers," affirmed Villacis, without ruling out the possibility that these actions may also lead to a broader popular uprising. Finally, Villacis indicated that a meeting of all of the key leaders of the country's various popular movements will be taking place tomorrow in order to better COORDINATE activities and to prepare a common front against an "ingenious and disinforming" government and President.
