China Seriously Concerned about Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: FM Spokesman

China is seriously concerned about the latest violent conflict between
Israel and Palestine, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Monday.
In response to a question, spokesman Zhu Bangzao said China is seriously
concerned that on July 29, an Israeli religious group held a
cornerstone-laying ceremony for a Jewish temple in Jerusalem, setting off a
violent conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Zhu said Jerusalem is the holy site of Islam, Judaism and Christianity, and
its belonging is a major and sensitive issue in the Israeli-Palestinian
talks, which should be solved through negotiations in accordance with
relevant resolutions of the United Nations.
China hopes that the parties concerned would actively cooperate with the
efforts of the international community and avoid unilateral actions so as to
create an appropriate atmosphere for ending Israeli-Palestinian conflicts as
soon as possible and resuming peace talks, Zhu said.

Exhibition Exposes Deceitful Tricks of Falun Gong.

An exhibition, showing the bloodcurdling incidents caused by the Falun Gong
cult, being held in the Chinese capital, fully exposes the tricks that Falun
Gong cult has used to seduce and bewitch people.
Titled "Against Cults and For Civilization", the exhibition opened at the
Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution on July 15 and will last
until July 29.
According to the exhibition, to meet the common wish of people for good
health, Falun Gong seduced and cheated a large of number of people by saying
that Falun Gong can enable people to have good health, cure all kinds of
diseases, and prolong their lives.
Making use of the psychological characteristics of the practitioners, Li
Hongzhi claimed that his Falun Gong could improve people's moral, and thus
bewitched many honest people.
The exhibition shows that after realizing his ulterior motives, Li Hongzhi
took a series of steps to instigate practitioners to abandon their families
and relatives and the thinking of ordinary people, and told them to only
believe in himself.
To stop practitioners from learning other information, Li Hongzhi asked all
practitioners to exercise Falun Gong twice a day, read his books, listen to
his tapes and watch his video recording endlessly.
Because of this, many practitioners lost their basic ability to make correct
judgments, and they refused to accept factual information or to make contact
with others who did not believe in Falun Gong, becoming totally controlled
by Li Hongzhi, the exhibition shows.
Then, Li Hongzhi misrepresented the causes of diseases, saying that all
illnesses are because of "Yeli" (evil power) and only by practicing Falun
Gong can a person drive away the "Yeli". As a result, many bewitched
followers refused to see doctors when they were ill.
Li Hongzhi even threatened practitioners by saying that if they want to
obtain "completion" and go to the "kingdom of heaven," they must follow him
faithfully so that they can cultivate their physical and metal capabilities
to a higher level, or else, they will die.
To shake off the fear, many practitioners committed suicide or killed others
to release their own "sins".
Following the aforementioned steps, Li Hongzhi further seduced
practitioners, saying that ordinary people live in this layer of space, and
by practicing Falun Gong, their "spirit" will rise and become a "Buddha" in
the upper layer of the space.
Thus, many practitioners broke away from reality and society, and looked
down on their lives. And even worse, under the instigation of Li Hongzhi,
they committed acts against the law and society.
According to reports, some 10,000 people daily visited the exhibition since
it opened.

KMT Calls for Better Across-Straits Ties
Taiwan's opposition Kuomintang (KMT) on Sunday called on the government to
improve the icy ties with Beijing by embracing the "one China" principle.
"We urged the ruling authorities to positively respond to the calls of the
opposition parties," KMT chairman Lien Chan told the opening of the party's
congress in Taoyuan, 40 kilometers south of Taipei.
He referred to the push for a swift reopening of the ``National
Reunification Council,'' set-up by the former KMT government for formulating
long-term reunification strategies.
The pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government has
virtually frozen the council since it won the local election and ended the
KMT's 51-year grip on power last year.
Lien, the former ``vice-president,'' also asked the DPP government to return
to the KMT government's official line in dealing with Beijing -- "one China
with different interpretations.''
The KMT said the policy it worked out after reaching an agreement with
Beijing in 1992 had helped maintain peace in the Taiwan Straits as it at
least guaranteed the island would not seek independence.
"In so doing, the two sides can reopen the negotiations..." Lien said.
Beijing called off the rapprochement talks in 1995 due to then "president"
Lee Teng-hui's visit to the United States, alleging it was part of Taipei's
bid for independence.
Lien also asked Beijing to weigh a fresh peace overture from his party,
under which a confederation linking Taiwan and the mainland would be
established before any potential reunification.
The mainland has repeatedly said that the confederation proposal could not
be accepted, and the "one country two systems" is the sole solution on the
question of Taiwan.
The confederation proposal, unveiled earlier this month in a KMT position
paper, was coldly rejected by Beijing, which favours the "one country, two
systems" formula under which Hong Kong and Macao are governed.
"We are in favor of the reunification of China, and the `one-country two
systems' formula, but we are not in favor of a confederate system," Foreign
Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said earlier this month at a routine press
briefing.
The proposal was also greeted with criticism at a meeting of the party's
decision-making central standing committee last week, with critics voicing
concern the proposal was close to the controversial "statehood claim" put
forward by Lee.
The KMT decided not to include the proposal in its party platform at the
congress.

Bush may visit South Korea in October
US President George W. Bush may visit South Korea in October before
attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China,
newspapers said Monday.
US Secretary of State Colin Powell discussed the schedule for Bush's trip at
talks last week with South Korean officials, the English-language daily
Korea Herald said.
It quoted an unnamed official in Seoul as saying: "The date and other
details have not been fixed. But US officials proposed Bush stay in Korea
for two days between Oct. 17-19, before going to Shanghai for the APEC
meting."
The South Korean government declined to confirm the report. The annual APEC
summit in Shanghai is to attract leaders from 21 Asian and Pacific
countries.
Bush may also visit Japan during his first trip to Asia, other newspapers in
Seoul said, adding Bush's summit with South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung
would focus on DPRK.
The first summit between Bush and Kim was held in Washington in March, after
Bush froze rapprochement talks between DPRK and the United States.
After a policy review, Bush said in June he was ready to re-engage Pyongyang
but wanted any talks to cover the full scope of relations with dprk,
including reductions in its armed forces.
Pyongyang has said it would not resume talks with Washington under the terms
proposed by Bush. It has also accused the United States of fabricating
threats from the country to justify US anti-missile defense plans.
The United States earlier this month conducted a successful test of a new
missile interception system, triggering an angry response from DPRK, Russia
and China.
Kim has urged Washington to actively engage DPRK as part of his efforts to
resume stalled inter-Korean talks.
But the United States has been reluctant to follow Kim's demand, prompting
concerns in Seoul that engagement with Pyongyang could run out of steam.
On Monday, Powell piled more pressure on DPRK for a reply to a US offer to
resume dialogue.
"The Koreans are anxious to not see the momentum stop," Powell said on his
plane headed for Australia.
"There is a concern that you would just sort of run into a flat period for a
long period of time and that would not be in the interest of President Kim
Dae-Jung's policy," he said.

Six Palestinians Reportedly Killed in Explosion
Six Palestinian activists were killed in an explosion early Monday in a
shack near a Palestinian refugee camp, witnesses and security officials
said. The blast tore apart the tin shack. Palestinian police at a checkpoint
about 200 yards away said they heard a loud blast. Palestinian security
officials, requesting anonymity, said the cause of the explosion was
unclear.
The explosion took place near the Al-Fara refugee camp north of Nablus. An
eyewitness said there were no Israeli helicopters in the area, and the blast
blew the roof off the shack, indicating that the explosion came from inside
the structure.
The Israeli military was checking the report.
Palestinian security officials said all six dead Palestinians were activists
in Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, and that three served in a Palestinian
military intelligence unit. All were on Israel's wanted list for planning
attacks inside Israel, they said.
In recent weeks Israel has carried out targeted killings of Palestinian
militants suspected of planning or carrying out attacks in Israel. In other
cases, militants have been killed in explosions, apparently while preparing
bombs for attacks, incidents the Israelis call "work accidents."
Palestinian officials did not immediately blame Israel for the blast.
One other man was wounded, the officials said.

What Lee Teng-hui Is Up to Is Only Too Evident
Lee Teng-hui, already retired for one year, has come out from behind the
scene to the front-stage. Recently, he has stepped up preparation for
forming a so-called the Lee's political organization to participate in this
year-end election, he threatened that he would help the Democratic Progress
Party (DPP) to win a majority seat, revealing his intention to rid the
"native faction" of the Kuomintang, in an attempt to split this party.
People can't help asking: Lee Teng-hui, an octogenarian, wanders about doing
all sorts of evils, and is openly working hand in glove with the DPP in an
attempt to destroy the Kuomintang, is it that is what he has pledged "he
would die together with the Kuomintang if need be"?
Lee Teng-hui, as former chairman of the Kuomintang, has tried every means to
undermine the Kuomintang, superficially, this seems going against logical
thinking, those who are ignorant of the fact think that this is caused by
"internal strife". In fact it is dictated by his "Taiwan independence"
nature. In his eyes, the Kuomintang in Taiwan is only a "political power
from outside", which will not continue his dozen-year "line", so he can feel
satisfied only after he gets rid of the Kuomintang.
Lee Teng-hui who wants only "Taiwan independence" and not "his personality",
at the beginning of taking office, he began fostering the DPP which targeted
at realizing "Taiwan independence", enlisted all separatist forces. Using
"populism" as a means, he employed "nativity" in name, while in actuality he
got rid of those who disagreed with him, he had successively forced a number
of important members out of the Kuomintang, resulting in the division of the
Kuomintang several times. The Kuomintang members who were forced out in
succession have formed a new party, thus weakening the internal strength of
the Kuomintang.
During the election of Taiwan leader last year, Lee Teng-hui caused the
re-division of the Kuomintang, through attacking those who held different
views, overtly and covertly supported the DPP candidate, as a result, the
DPP finally won the political power. The "century-old store", the
Kuomintang, suffered a disastrous defeat in the election and was reduced to
an opposition party. Regarding this, Lee Teng-hui openly declared that he
"had made use of the Kuomintang to accomplish what he wanted to do". No
wonder some Kuomintang members indignantly said: Lee Teng-hui "works for the
interest of an opposing group at the expense of his own party", there is
nothing worse than this!
After the Taiwan new leader took office, Lee Teng-hui constantly gave him
personal instructions and helped him secretly. Seeing the case of recall
started by the opposition parties and was triggered by the suspension of the
fourth nuclear power station, political instability, and economic recession,
particularly the cooperative participation in this year-end election by the
opposition parties including the Kuomintang and the People First Party, Lee
was on the tenterhooks. In order to undermine the cooperation between the
Kuomintang and the People First Party and to help the DPP to "tide over
difficulties", he resorted to his old trick, on the one hand, he sowed
dissension among the opposition parties to undermine their cooperation; on
the other hand, he plotted to force the "native faction" out of the
Kuomintang to form a new party, to break up the internal force of the
Kuomintang; at the same time he stepped up "collaboration" with the DPP, in
an attempt to extend his political life by relying on the DPP and realize
his ulterior "ideal". Just as some news media have sharply pointed out Lee
Teng-hui's smug calculation is: on the one hand, he hopes to reorganize a
political organization to help the DPP to win a stable majority seat in the
so-called "Legislative Yuan" and, on the other hand, attacking the
Kuomintang so as to throw it into "a splitting state."
Sima Zhao's trick is obvious to every man in the street- the villain's
design is obvious. More and more Taiwan people have seen through Lee
Teng-hui's true color when he wanders about doing all sorts of evils. Some
people within the Kuomintang strongly demand expelling Lee Teng-hui from the
Kuomintang. We advise 80-year-old Lee Teng-hui stop doing anymore evils.

Top DPRK Leader Makes Stopover in Krasnoyarsk En Route to Moscow
Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK),
made a brief stopover in Russia's Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk on his way to
Moscow on Monday, Itar-Tass news agency reported.
Kim's special train stopped at the railway station for changing the
locomotive. None of the DPRK officials left the train during the 30 minutes
when it stayed at the station, while 150 journalists and onlookers were
gathering at the terminal, Tass said.
During Kim's stay in Krasnoyarsk, old timers recalled that Kim 's father,
Kim Il Sung, also stopped his train there for almost half a day on May 21,
1984. He visited the local hydropower plant and went on a sightseeing tour
of the city.
No protocol events were held in Krasnoyarsk on Monday, for they are not
provided for in the program of Kim's visit.
The departure of four trains, including the Moscow-Vladivostok express, was
delayed for Kim's 30-minute stop.
Early Tuesday, Kim Jong Il will make a brief stopover in Novosibirsk,
another key city on the Siberian railway, to meet the family of the man who
saved his father in 1946.
Sources in the Novosibirsk regional administration told Tass that Kim Jong
Il has expressed a desire to meet the family of North Korean labor hero
Yakov Novichenko. The family of the late Yakov Novichenko who saved the life
of Kim Il Sung on March 1, 1946, now resides in Novosibirsk.
Back in 1946, the Russian officer caught the grenade, which an unidentified
wrongdoer had hurled at the tribune where Kim Il Sung was standing during a
meeting in the railway station square in Pyongyang. Novichenko could not get
rid of the grenade at once as many people were standing around him. The
officer fell to the ground covering the grenade with his body.
The explosion caused five serious wounds to Novichenko: his arm was torn off
and his eyes were damaged, but the man survived. He was awarded the title of
a hero of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Kim Jong Il will arrive in the Siberian city of Omsk later on Tuesday, where
he is to visit a T-80 tank firing range.
A spokesman of the Omsk regional administration said that local arms
manufacturers want to show combat capabilities of the T- 80 tank to Kim.
Kim, who is travelling to Moscow along the Trans-Siberian railway, is
arriving in Omsk on Tuesday afternoon and will spend a day in the city.
On Wednesday, Kim will visit the transport machinery plant and the leading
Russian "Omsk Bacon" pig-breeding farm in the city.
Russian media cited the South Korean "Korea Times" newspaper as saying on
Monday that Kim will spend in Russia a total of 24 days, including the
railway trip across the whole of the country up to western Russian port city
of St. Petersburg and back to Pyongyang.
