ago3latinLatin America must struggle against the Free Trade Agreement

Havana, August 3 (AIN) Pedro Ross, General Secretary of the Cuban
Trade Union Center, affirmed in Havana that the Latin American trade union
leaders must be united in the struggle against the Free Trade Agreement of
the Americas.

Ross, who travelled to Venezuela and Uruguay, told the local press
that the workers movement in this hemisphere must oppose the Free Trade
Agreement promoted by the United States and struggle against the neo liberal
globalization process.

Many social forces in Latin America are aware that if they don't
struggle against the LAFTA their peoples will face serious problems.

The free trade area , provided for 2005 in this continent has been
negotiated on the backs of the peoples and workers, he added.

Along with Brazil and Venezuela, who oppose the secret negotiations of
LAFTA, the region must unite so that the free trade is beneficial to the
more than a billion inhabitants in the area and not only the powerful ones.

Ross Leal pointed out the confrontation of the progressive forces to
the neo liberal economies predominant in the world for the last two decades
which are responsible for the poverty of millions of people in the
underdeveloped world. The labor leader took part in the Conference on LAFTA,
Neo liberalism and Globalization, held in Caracas, Venezuela. He went also
to the Congress of the Uruguayan Central Trade Union and held talks with
leaders of social forces in the region.
