APPEAL FOR YOUTH ORGANISATIONS OF THE WORLD REGARDING
Algiers, August 2001
The 20th century was essentially marked by people's
struggle for the national liberation and by changes
that up set the whole world after the fall of Berlin
wall
The international festival's movement initiated the
beginning of 1947 , deeply marked this struggle and
allowed to offer to the youth of the world a space of
free expression around their preoccupations and a
forum of solidarity with people searching for
independence , for self determination and for
development.
Humanity is entering the 21st century with hopes
and new aspirations , but it has to face at the same
time great challenges, being aware that centuries
changes can not change our lives for the better , it
depends on our juvenile, common and jointly struggle
as a vivid power of peoples.
The 15th edition of the International Festival of
Youth and Students that comes to strengthen the
acquisitions of the last festivals , will take place
in a new millennium marked by disastrous effects of
globalisation and the new structuring of the
international relations under the slogan adopted by a
consensus " let us globalise the struggle for peace ,
solidarity , development, against imperialism".
This 15th edition also plays a great role in an
era where the civil society at the international level
became an undeniable partner in taking decisions
thanks to multiform struggles led by non governmental
organisations which lay down them selves as a real
ways and means of claiming and expressing
preoccupations of the different stratum of peoples .
The next festival appointed for August from the
8th to 16th , 2001 in Algiers will take place for the
first time in Africa, a continent facing great
challenges as peace , stability, struggle against
diseases, poverty and under-development , this
continent should collect an international solidarity .
The Algerian youth that represent a historical
partner of the international festival's movement is
committed to day with its people for development and
stability, is delighted by the confidence of world's
youth who selected Algiers to shelter the next
festival .
They are more and more delighted by the degree of
stability acquired thanks to the daily effort of the
Algerian people in their multiform struggle for
development .
The participation of world youth in Algiers
represent an international act of solidarity with
Africa as well as the Algerian people , especially
the Algerian youth , it also answer to a major concern
which is to put to gather youth of the world in the
eve of this millennium with its challenges around
their great preoccupations.
By this act of solidarity , world youth will show
their determination for promoting peace , democracy ,
human rights , progress , modernity and well being.
The struggle of youth and students facing
challenges of the present time should be more unitary
and jointly.
Algiers Festival will be an open forum for the youth
of the world without distinction nor exclusion , a
festival which will put to gather youth in order to
exchange their experiences and for finding potential
solutions for the different problems and to establish
an action plan concerning subject such as: peace ,
solidarity , disarmament proliferation of nuclear
weapon , globalisation , conflicts and instability ,
blockades and embargo , moving of people , human
rights , science and technology , media and culture ,
eradication of racism , equality , education,
employment , poverty , environment , Aids, drugs
abuse and many other themes .
The commitment of many international , regional
and national organisations in Europe , Asia , Latin
America , North America , Africa and in the Arab
World is total for the success of this great
appointment of the world youth .
The national preparatory committee that embody all
the Algerian associative movement, host of the 15th
Festival , invite your organisation to take part in
this great international rendezvous of youth and hope
to meet you in Algiers next summer .
