Kim Jong Il's Russia visit hailed
pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il's official Russia
visit is warmly supported and welcomed by world public circles. The
Socialist Unionist Party of Syria in a statement released on August 7 noted
that the party has followed with keen attention leader Kim Jong Il's
historic official visit to the Russian Federation. Now that the U.S. moves
for "globalization" and world domination are getting pronounced, we regard
his visit as a historic one of opening a new prospect of leading socialism
to progress and development worldwide, the statement said.
The Arab and International Committee for Solidarity with the Korean
People and for Supporting the Reunification of Korea in a statement issued
on August 6 said it is a striking demonstration of the traditional
friendship and solidarity between the DPRK and Russia that Kim Jong Il went
to Russia and met with President V.V. Putin.
Organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people are
convinced that people's Korea and Russia will contribute to genuine peace
and security of asia and the rest of the world and the solidarity and
progress of the world people, it stressed.

Japan's moves for reinvasion of Korea under fire
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries a commentary
denouncing Japan for invariably pursuing its wild design to reinvade Korea.
This is clearly evidenced by the fact that Japan is keen to round off ahead
of schedule the reexamination of the present "defense program outlines"
supposed to be finished in 2005, the commentary says, and goes on:
The Japanese reactionaries' loudmouthed "defense program outlines" are a
dangerous document for overseas aggression, not for "defense."
They are calling for the exercise of the "right of collective
self-defense" under the signboard of "international contribution." and they
are underscoring the need to revise the present constitution in a bid to
replace the symbolic "peace constitution" by a war constitution.
Japan's distortion of textbooks intended to whitewash the history of the
past aggression and the Japanese chief executive's attempt to visit the
"Yasukuni Shrine" go to prove that they are desperately working to realize
their design for reinvasion.
Today Japan has emerged as a dangerous force of aggression in Asia. The
Korean peninsula is the first target of the Japanese reactionaries. They are
directing the spearhead of aggression to the peninsula, talking about a
"joint counter-action" with the united states in case of "emergency on the
Korean peninsula."
Having already worked out the scenario for reinvasion of Korea, they
frantically staged landing operation and other attack operation exercises
while massively deploying the main units of the "self-defense forces" in the
western part of Japan near the Korean peninsula.
Their hasty moves to reexamine the "defense program outlines" are to
round off their preparations to stage a comeback to Korea.

Sports contests for Jonsung Cup held
pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Sports contests for Jonsung Cup were held
in Pyongyang and localities on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the
victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. The contests involved
swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo, diving, yachting, canoeing,
water skiing and other sea games.
National records were renewed in several swimming events.

U.S. moves to provoke war denounced
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Abudl Kader, chairman of the central
committee of the National Workers' Federation of Bangladesh, issued a
statement on august 5 in support of the Korean people's cause of national
reunification. He in the statement said:
Leader Kim Jong Il formulated the three principles of independence,
peaceful reunification and great national unity, the ten-point programme of
the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the
Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo as the three charters for national
reunification and has wisely led the Korean people's struggle to realize
them.
Under these circumstances, the historic Pyongyang summit meeting was
held and the north-south joint declaration was published in June last year.
The U.S. imperialists and their stooges are now scheming to thwart the
peaceful solution of the Korean issue.
We denounce the U.S. forces' occupation of South Korea and their moves
to ignite a new war, and demand the immediate withdrawal of the U.S. troops
from South Korea.
The chairman called upon all the peace-loving people of the world to
extend support and solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle to put
an end to the U.S. forces' presence in South Korea and reunify the country
peacefully.

Japan urged to apologize and compensate for its past crimes
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- We once again urge Japan to stop
distorting history at once, admit its legal responsibility for its past
crimes against humanity and settle its disgraceful past with an official
apology and state compensation. The DPRK delegate said this in a speech at
the 53rd session of the UN sub-commission on human rights held in Geneva on
August 6.
The aggression and conquest of other countries and nations, colonialism
and the slavery inflicted immeasurable pain and disasters on many victimized
countries and people, he said, and went on:
However, there are persistent attempts to bury the issue of the past in
oblivion forever. Japan is not allowed to behave as it pleases as far as the
issue of the settlement of its past is concerned.
Those countries that enforced a colonial rule and slavery in the past
should admit their legal and moral responsibility and make an official
apology. And through state compensation and education in correct history
they should show their clear commitments and political willingness not to
repeat their wrong past.

S. Korean university students refuse to work at Chosun Ilbo office
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Representatives of students of newspaper
and broadcasting faculties of eleven universities across South Korea
including Yonsei University and Korea University made public a declaration
of refusal to find employment at the Chosun Ilbo office, according to
Seoul-based CBS. They announced at a press conference demanding a press
reform on August 8 that they would not get jobs at the newspaper office and
that they would conduct a campaign to refuse employment at the Chosun Ilbo
office not only among the above-said students but among all other university
students of South Korea.
