KIM JONG IL TO MAKE A STOPOVER IN KHABAROVSK

KHABAROVSK, August 16, 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Yevgeny
Bugayenko/--North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, who is on a journey back home
along Russia's Trans-Siberian railway, will make a lengthy stopover in
Khabarovsk on Friday. Kim's armoured train is expected to arrive at 11:40
local time.

The schedule of the North Korean leader's stay in Khabarovsk was agreed
beforehand and envisages a trip to a new baby mix production factory, the
only one in Siberia and the Russian Far East and visits to a local Museum of
Regional Studies, Museum of Military Glory of the Far Eastern Military
District, and a territorial House of War and Labor Veterans.

Kim Jong Il will lay wreaths to the Eternal Flame by the war memorial in
Khabarovsk's Ploshchad Slavy (Square of Glory). The marble pylons of the
memorial bear almost 48,000 names of Khabarovsk territory natives who
perished while defending their Motherland and liberating Korea from Japanese
colonial domination.

Later on, Kim and his entourage will take a trip down the Amur on a
motorship.

The stopover in Khabarovsk wasn't on the initial schedule but was added to
it when Kim received an invitation from President Putin's plenipotentiary to
the Far Eastern Federal District Konstantin Pulikovsky, who accompanies the
North Korean leader on his lengthy railway journey across Russia.
