CUBAN BALLET WON'T PERFORM IN MIAMI
Plans to bring the Cuban national ballet to Miami in the fall were dropped
in
light of the decision of the Grammys to move to Los Angeles. The famous
troup will be on a national tour of the US. Judy Drucker, the concert
promoter
said, ``I'm certainly not going to do it now,'' Drucker said by phone from
New England, where she's vacationing. ``It's upsetting. We're the only city
in the nation that doesn't have freedom of expression.''

LATIN GRAMMYS - ANALYSIS, FALLOUT AND FINGERPOINTING

UNEASY LIES LATIN MUSIC'S CROWN
LA Times commentator Augustin Gurza explains why Miami has never
produced world-class musicians as Cuba has. He attributes it to Cuba's
socialist education system. He shows why the reactionar exiles were so
desperate to keep Elian here, and to disrupt Cuban artists's as well.
Each time a Cuban artist performs here and freely returns to the island,
it gives the lie to what they have believed and claimed against Cuba for
over 40 years. An excellent commentary from start to finish.

The Herald reports on fingerpointing over responsibility for the
loss of the Grammys and the millions of dollars which went with them.
Miami mayor Joe Carrollo tries to frame the issue as one of a denial
of free speech rights by the Grammys and the American Airlines
Arena where the event was scheduled to be held.

The Miami Daily Business Journal reports on conflicting reasons
given for the removal of the Grammys to Los Angeles. They usually
cover financial stories which the Herald doesn't.

"Grammy chief's motives suspected" A Herald writer did a background check
on Micheal Greene in order to question his motives about the move to
Los Angeles. He had not been willing to be interviewed by the Herald.

"Cuban provocateurs" responsible? Grammy chief Greene saying he'd
heard from Miami officials about Cuban agents who might proke trouble.
However, "Lisandro Prez, a sociologist at Florida International University,
was dubious of the theory," the Herald reports.

``I think there are plenty of people who make themselves look bad,''
he said. ``I think this notion of blaming Castro for everything here
is the easy way out. When someone steps out of line, throws a
battery or something, then it's Fidel.''

"Torricelli, Menendez near top in donations by Cuban-Americans"
according to a local report in the New Jersey News. This story

which have developed around Torricelli.

And while we're following the money trail, Federal officials have
not yet disclosed all they've found out about Miami Republican
Representative Lincoln Diaz-Balart's fund-raising committee.
An extensive report from the Miami Daily Business Review
and quite different from the way Herald coverage of these stories.

were whining about Cuba's limitation on computers and the
internet. Now they moan, "Young Cubans have embraced the
new computer technology and have been increasingly recruited
to help the communist government design web pages aimed
at reaching around the U.S. trade embargo."
