Libya News and Views

Saturday, 25 August, 2001: The Libyan cleared of the Lockerbie bombing
called for the release of his convicted co-accused on Friday, saying he was
sure Abel Basset al-Megrahi was innocent of the 1988 atrocity. Al-Amin
Fahima, who was cleared in January of planting the bomb on Pam Am flight 103
which killed 270 people over the Scottish town, told the Scotsman newspaper
he hoped Megrahi's pending appeal would determine the truth. "I am totally
convinced he is innocent. I hope the appeal judges study this case
carefully," Fahima said. "I am happy that the truth came out as far as I am
concerned, and I'm innocent. I hope that the same thing will happen soon to
Mr. Megrahi and I will see him back in Libya," the paper quoted Fahima as
saying. [Reuters]
