SOCIAL SERVICE WORKERS FIGHTING FOR A LIVING WAGE
Despite a $400,000-$500,000 windfall sale of real estate to the McMinamin's Pub chain, Janus Youth Programs and their law firm, Stoel Rives, have refused all living wage proposals for Street Light and Porch Light Shelter workers represented by IWW IU 650. Stoel Rives Attorney Andrew Altschul made Janus' position clear when he said, "If it's a choice between spending money unwisely fighting you [the workers] and spending money unwisely [on the living wage proposal], we'll choose the first, of course."
Union compromises have reduced the cost to Janus of the living wage proposal to about $8,300, but Janus CEO, Dennis Morrow, has refused to budge. In fact, Dennis Morrow, who is paid over $130,000 per year plus teaching and consulting fees, has declared he will no longer even meet with workers at the negotiating table. We call on everyone who cares about workers or services to homeless youth to call Dennis Morrow at 503-233-6090 to support the living wage proposal and join shelter workers at an Action at Stoel Rives Law, 900 SW 5th Ave., on Weds October 3rd at 11:30am.
