Statement Issued by Ahmad Sa�adat, PFLP General Secretary 7 November 2001
The Zionist political proposals that carry the name "The Peres-Sharon Initiative" have appeared within the framework of attempts to mislead the international community and to cover up the crimes that the Zionist government commits on a daily basis against our people.� The most recent examples of outrages, which will not be the last such crimes, are the execution killings of the militants Iyyad al-Khatib, Jamal Mallouh, and Ali Abu Hajlah, and the assassination of the militants Ikrimah Istiti and Majdi Jarradat, in addition to the destruction of Palestinian civil institutions, the bulldozing of fields, and the imposition of a blockade on Palestine's cities and villages.� The Zionist initiative is also an attempt to block the way to any attempt that aims to force Israel to stop its aggression against our people and to implement United Nations� resolutions. The course of what is called the "political initiative" brings with it a clear threat to the will of the international community and to its resolutions concerning the Palestinian problem -- resolutions that reject the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and the Jerusalem region, and that demand that our people�s refugees are ensured the right to return home. In view of this, I call upon the international community, and primarily, the United Nations, to put a limit on Israel's determination to challenge the international will.� I also call upon the countries taking part in the coalition that have called for a declaration of war on what they label� "terrorism," to stand up to the Zionist terrorism practiced against our popular masses, and to provide temporary international protection to our people, in preparation for enabling them to exercise their right to return, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with United Nations� resolutions. In addition I call on the Palestine Authority to break down the wall of illusion that has come to separate it from sections of our people.� These illusions have allowed it to pin its hopes upon international -- American and British -- initiatives that dovetail with the new Zionist program, and that mark a step down from the level of United Nations� resolutions.� I call on the Palestine Authority to act to stop all the steps it has been taking in response to Israeli and American pressure and dictate.� I call on it immediately to free all Palestinians detained because of their opinions, or because they resist the occupation, and to proceed to take practical steps in order to build an internal Palestinian home strong enough to respond to the need to develop and escalate the uprising and the resistance, as a prime way to attain the goals of our patriotic people.
