Taliban supporters are now targets for reprisal from the Northern Alliance troops. In one incident, a Taliban fighter was dragged from his hiding place, beaten up, stripped and mutilated then shot several times. His body was dumped at the roadside. Elsewhere in the capital, people kicked the charred remains of Arabs killed when a rocket slammed into their truck. The bodies of two other Arabs lay in the street where they lived. There are fears that with the advances of the northern alliance, Afghanistan might slide into factional fighting. When the alliance last ruled Afghanistan from 1992 to 1996, the country was fractured by inter-factional wars. The Red Cross said the bodies of five Pakistanis and six Arab nationals were collected from different parts of the city. The Pakistanis had climbed into trees and were firing randomly when northern alliance troops killed them in a hail of bullets, and went on firing into their corpses, witnesses said.
