NA vice chairman believes in closer Vietnam-RoK co-operationNational
Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Yeu has expressed his belief in the
further development of friendship and co-operation between Vietnam and the
Republic of Korea (RoK) in economics, culture, science and technology as the
two share many similarities in history and culture.

Mr Yeu was speaking in Hanoi on January 14 with Park Kwang Tae, visiting
chairman of the RoK National Assembly's Industry and Resources Committee.

He said that the RoK is one of the biggest investors in Vietnam and
RoK-invested projects are operating effectively.

Mr Park expressed his delight at the fine development of the Vietnam-RoK
relationship. He spoke highly of Vietnam's renovation achievements and said
that his delegation's visit aimed to assess Vietnam's situation, the
operation of RoK enterprises in the country, and the possibilities for
further bilateral co-operation.

He said that both countries should co-operate for further development as
Vietnam has an abundant workforce and rich natural resources, while the RoK
has experience and high-tech companies. (VNA)

Ho Chi Minh and Kaysone Phomvihane museums boost co-operationExperiences in
preserving exhibits at the Ho Chi Minh Museum have been presented at an
international seminar on raising museum services organised recently in
Vientiane by the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum of Laos.

At the seminar, Osakan Thammatheva, Politburo member of the Lao People's
Revolutionary Party, laid stress on the significance of scientific research
in disseminating the revolutionary life, cause, and ethics of President Ho
Chi Minh of Vietnam and President Kaysone Phomvihane of Laos. He expressed
the hope for further co-operation between the Ho Chi Minh Museum and the
Kaysone Phomvihane Museum.

Officials of the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum expressed their wish for
assistance from the Ho Chi Minh Museum in exchanging experiences in
personnel training and management. (VNA)

Tanzania wants to develop relations with VietnamTanzanian President Benjamin
Mkapa affirmed his country's determination to consolidate and expand
comprehensive co-operation with Vietnam, especially in trade, agriculture
and fisheries. 

He was talking to non-resident Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania Nguyen Huu
Dung in Dar es Salaam on January 10 after receiving the diplomat's
credentials. 

President Mkapa expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people's
struggle for national salvation and reunification, as well as their great
achievements in the current renovation process, which, he said, helped turn
Vietnam from a backward agricultural country into a nation with a growing
role in Southeast Asia and the world.

He emphasised that the successes gained by Vietnam in the past more than 50
years are an example to, and practical lesson for, the Tanzanian and other
African people. 

During his stay in Tanzania, the Vietnamese ambassador paid courtesy visits
to the acting foreign minister and the minister of agriculture of Tanzania.
He called at a number of farming establishments and economic zones on
Zanzibar island where he inquired into the possibilities for co-operation
between the two countries. (VNA)

Hanoi, Delhi to become sister cities: Delhi governorMs Senla Dexit, governor
of India's capital city, Delhi, expressed her warm sentiments to the
Vietnamese people and her wish that Hanoi and Delhi, sharing similarities in
history and traditional culture, would become sister cities.

Delhi Governor Senla Dexit was speaking at a meeting organised in New Delhi
last weekend to welcome the 30th anniversary of the establishment of
Vietnam-India diplomatic relations.

Addressing the meeting, Brakat Karad, Politburo member of the Communist
Party of India (CPM-Marxist), spoke highly of the traditional friendship
between the two countries, and affirmed that Vietnam holds an important role
in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and has solidly
co-operative relations with India.

Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sy Tam highlighted the role of the two
countries' friendship organizations and expressed his wish that these
organizations would make worthy contributions to further cementing the
solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and India.

Also on this occasion, a Vietnamese film making group of Vietnam Television
has come to India at the invitation of India's Foreign Ministry to produce a
film entitled "India-on the way to development". (VNA)

Government�s working mission works in Lam Dong

A government�s working mission led by Minister of Health Do Nguyen Phuong,
spent two days working in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong to
review the local authorities� settlement of the people�s complaints and
denunciations. 

Members of the delegation heard the reports by provincial People�s Committee
leaders and functional agencies on the settlement of the local people�s
complaints and denunciations as asked by an earlier interdisciplinary
mission; the implementation of conclusions and proposals by central
ministries and branches on complaints and denunciations by local people; the
implementation of the prime minister�s instructions in settlement of
complaints and denunciations; and complaints and denunciations of the local
people in 2001. 

After analysing and assessing the implementation of the complaints, Minister
Do Nguyen Phuong concluded that Lam Dong has seriously carried out the
instructions by the prime minister and the requests by ministries and
branches. This is even through the number of complaints and denunciations in
the province is high and there are many problems that need to being
resolved. The province has basically addressed some key issues and
complaints that are complicated, with many people involved and those
relating to religion.

The minister asked Lam Dong to pay more attention to those issues.

Minister Do Nguyen Phuong also asked other central functional bodies
involved to participate in the settlement of some issues that are too
complicated for Lam Dong to deal with alone.

Vietnam attends Asian-Pacific parliamentary forumDo Van Tai, member of the
National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee and chairman of the NA's Committee
for External Relations, attended the 10th meeting of the Asian-Pacific
Parliamentary Forum (APPF) in Honolulu, US Hawaii, from January 6-9.

He joined representatives of the 24 APPF member countries in discussing 31
topics on the fight against terrorism, economy and trade; political and
security issues; environment; information technology and education;
development co-operation and APPF co-operation.

Mr Tai delivered a report on political situation and security in the region
on the basis of the results of the eighth meeting of the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum (ARF-8) held in Hanoi in July
of 2001 with Vietnam holding the presidency.

He stressed that the ARF members were unanimous in recommending that the ARF
continued making progress and playing an important role in maintaining peace
and stability in the region, as well as contributing to promoting
negotiations and co-operation in solving political and security issues in
the Asia-Pacific region. (VNA)
