Hey

First of all: I'm a simple user, I haven't studied the protocols or
anything. Other people can give you more qualified answers.

The auth requests get delivered whenever somebody else tries to add you to
his contact list. In theory there probably wouldn't be a problem in
replying to the request without adding the contact who sent it, but due to
the way the handling of the requests is coded in kopete it doesn't work
like that at the moment because only contacts known to our (local) contact
list are considered.
Anyway, you get all information you need.

But as I understand it, the ICQ server can be reluctant to send you status
information for contacts if you don't have them in your (server side)
list - which would be the real problem here.

Sorry, I don't know about that. It's been a terribly long time since I last
used the original client :/

Uhm, in any case I guess this CAN be done in theory. Miranda offers/offered
an option to _not_ send the other contact the notification about having
been added, so maybe doing something similar could be of help here.

Probably you should open a new bug for this.

Regards,
Frank

PS: I hope this works, I have never before posted to a mailing list. Sorry in
advance. BTW: It's pure coincidence that I saw this here.
