I am not defending the company against any accusation of being a spook agency (or some other such non-sense),...
Oh, but you are, and you seem overly annoyed about it.
We're all grownups here. We all know what the term "Spook" means. I supported some spook activity in my military service. Big deal. They were doing their job. I mine. Everyone knew they were Spooks. No one cared. Especially the Spooks.
It's not necessarily all about clandestine meetings and double agents. But even the real James Bonds of the world have to have someone build and support their tools of the trade.
Apparently, though SAIC doesn't so such work. To quote someone else, "Bwahahahahahaah now THAT's funny".

Paranoia? Sorry you made that up or you're projecting. No one has expressed anything but concern so far in the discussion. I have no doubt that your former/present/future company (odd how your characterization of your connection with SAIC reminds me so of M*A*S*H's Colonel Flag) is a source of pride for it's employees. That's the way it /should/ be. However, unless you and your employer were commissioned by God, him-/her-/itself, then even your beloved employer is/has been/will be flawed. And thus, not above reproach.
And while SAIC certainly does lots of great things, they are not just /any/ company; they have few peers in this country, let alone in the world. They have more connections than your State Senators, and as much or more influence on national security than most heads of state.
Also, having been a contributing member of this list for gosh I have no idea how many years... 7 ? 8? I hate to see people on it, make such ridiculous accusations that are not based on fact, but only on paranoia or guess work helped along by The X-Files and other works of fiction.
Or have words put into their mouths, I hope. Sorry, but you're not really helping your employer's credibility here with such contentful arguments. :)
Oh, and I haven't noticed that seniority on the list carries much weight around here.

If, while I was employed by Ryan, someone had said they we worked on programs which could lead to both good and bad things, depending on who's hands they fell into, *I* certainly would not have been offended. I'd have said "Yeah, as far as my knowledge goes, maybe we do (aluminum coffins, Apache helo, Global Hawk, MALD, X/F-22, pilotless fighter, etc.). So what?". I was still proud to be a part of the company. I wouldn't have accused anyone who criticized my company of engaging in a ridiculous degree of paranoia and supposition. That would have made me ... well, a bit of a crackpot.
