The client doesn't wait to hear back from the server that the write was
done successfuly. In sync mode, the client does wait to hear back, so
this is obviously slower, but more reliable.
the hard and soft attributes will also prevent you fron hanging when the
server dissapears. And the intr option if you change your mind....
