Actually...  (which means that a rebuttal follows)

I bought a damned good quality set of bookshelves from WalMart a while
back.  I went back to buy more and they had switched suppliers for the
same product.  I bought one anyway, and it turned out to be crap.  I
wrote WalMart and complained, and they canned the crap supplier.  I
like WalMart.  There are a lot of things that I don't need to be
quality, that I'd prefer rock-bottom prices on, and WalMart provides
that.  I'm amazed at the cheap stuff I can get there.

Also, I had one of the most pleasing customer service experiences I've
had in several months two days ago at WalMart.  Of course, it's not
hard to improve on the general level of customer service these days.

Consumerism has its legitimate place in the world.
