This is where my brother and I differ. Becoz I have a "day job", I can
afford to run around saying that everything should be OpenSource and
free to the people. He on the other hand, can't put food on the table
unless he retains ownership of his copyrights and is able to negotiate
terms.
I don't think the litmus test for the evils of copyright extension
should be physical death.
extension ?
There shouldn't be any extensions.
It was a done deal @ N-years. An owner had that long to make their $$
If they hadn't made it by then, they prolly weren't going to. Extensions
are for those that HAVE made $$, but want more, or have no other new
ideas about doing something different.
Make no mistake that I do believe in the copyright system. To protect
both his right to do whatever he wants with his works. The RIAA to do
whatever they want with their works (including the right to install some
anti-copying measures if they see fit). My right to give it away with
limitations under the GPL.
I don't believe the govt should be coming in and helping those that
can't think of anything better to do that sit on their arses (Disney and
RIAA) and not do anything new with the works they own (this includes
extensions and the DMCA)
