We've seen this again and again and again.  People can do without the
latest and greatest for a couple of years; the media companies cannot do
without a revenue stream for nearly as long.  The power is in the market.

This is what I have done. This is particularly so with music, since there are so many ways I want to use it. I don't completely abstain, but I probably went from a few hundred dollars a year on music and movies to less than a hundred.
