This is a non-trivial discussion for me. My company makes highly
regulated (medical) devices. If any SW we use is deemed to have a
potential impact on human safety, then we perform and document an
Intended Use Validation.

And open source is used here. Perl and Python are the glue that holds
things together (M$ perl and python, but OSS nonetheless).

This has implications. Access cannot be used for human risk
applications, like SW compatibility DBs. Email (Outlook) cannot be used
for persistent documentation. 

Oh, and Outlook really _does_ suck. The last upgrade broke the room
reservation function, and also screwed up regular meeting notification.
There have almost been fistfights over meeting rooms, and this is a laid
