eMusic.com support a linux download client and uses mp3 format.  It's a
subscription service, though, and their selection leaves more than a bit
to be desired.

I recently heard rhapsody.com supported linux, but I couldn't get it to
work with Firefox 1.5.

I would be surprised if the record industry considered allofmp3.com to
be legal, despite the money you give them and the "Russian Multimedia &
Internet Society License", tovarich.  Of course, I've been surprised a
