OK tried it... boot: linux acpi=off with ACPI off in the BIOS. No worky.

regarding ACPI. That guy found satisfaction by disabling it in BIOS.
I see that you have tried ACPI fixes, but it may be worth a careful
retry after re-determining the proper command-line option. Is it
just something like
linux acpi=off

I have installed centos4.2 (on other MBs) without difficulty, but I
do recall several other threads re other OS installs on other MBs
reporting ACPI problems during install (but not after install) -- I
guess the install kernel doesn't always provide compatibility with
all hw environments.
Read those too.
Hmmm, now that I think of it, I recall centos installs having
sporadic difficulty with different CDROM devices. In particular, the
ISO image verification step often failed, but the install proceded
ok, if verification was skipped. Do you have other CDROMs you can
try?
Tried different drives, different images, different media. Tried USB and IDE
drives.
Another thought: have you tried text-mode install?
Always text. These are rackmount servers. No mice. Monitors only
attached long
enough to install.

CentOS 3.5, OpenBSD and Debian Sarge all install fine, at regular
speed. I have
6 of these boards, all exhibit the same behavior. WTF ? It's not
an option to
not support CentOS 4.
I have tried several different ISO images, from different mirrors,
on different
media, burned on different burners. I have tried USB CDROM
(preferred method),
and IDE CDROM. I tried different boards (same model of course),
with different
CPU's (2.53 and 2.8), and different RAM.
I have tried disabling Audio, Floppy, USB, ACPI. I have tried the SATA in
"Compatible" mode and "Enhanced" mode.
Thoughts on boot flags, other BIOS settings ? I need to be able to
customize
each installation, but I can't have it take so freakin' long !
Yep, I Googled
it, but maybe your suggestions will be better than those I found.
