Despise it?? Red Hat puts a lot of work into the open source ecosystem, and it's that cash flow that allows that to happen! Including, Lan, JFFS2. You were asking about the filesystem on your USB stick earlier last week. Someone suggested sticking with FAT, partly because it's not journalled. You could also check out the Red Hat developed JFFS2, a journalling filesystem designed for flash devices. DefenseWeb Technologies paid for the development, in a sense.
