No, the ones who do not need it still do not "need" it. Those who need

You are completely missing the point. Everyone needs it so we will be
ready for the day when everyone needs it.
I did not miss the point at all. The day will never come when
"everyone" needs it. "Everyone" means without exception. Even when
that fearful day comes, there will inevitably be people who will go
unscathed whether they are protected or not. There are always
exceptions. And this does not even address the people who trust the
powers-that-be so much that it won't bother them if said powers examine
their stuff. Never underestimate the percentage of people with sheep
mentality, especially when the leaders command with charisma and
whatnot, let alone fear.
But that's not really the point anyway. The point is that your need to
protect yourself moves you to utilize encryption. But if no one else
uses it, then the few who do use it are automatically suspect of being
up to no good and untrustworthy. And the only way for those few to
protect themselves is by obfuscation, basically by setting up a game of
magical hats for their opponents to have to play in order to find them,
like in 2 Fast 2 Furious not knowing which cars to follow.
First they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was
not a Jew.
Then they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I
was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out -
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me - and their was no one left to speak for me.
There were plenty others left (assuming you are referring to the
Holocaust). Of the six million Jews, and mere thousands of others
exterminated by the Nazzis, there were many, many times more people
untouched. But that is not the point, I agree. Once a group was
targeted, that group was toast because of the apathy of the rest. But
kicking the masses out of apathy when they don't see the need is like
trying to convince those frogs to jump out of the water that just keeps
feeling better and better.
