I'm frustrated. FC4 broke wireless for me on every box that used it. I
can't get it to work with different HW, different chip sets, ndiswrapper

I have no assurance that FC5 will fix things. I'm tempted to try another
distro ... maybe SUSe.

Who has what wireless working with SUSe? Especially Atheros chips ...

I have used SuSE 9.3 and 10 on several recent ThinkPad "R" and "T"
series notebooks with built-in Intel PRO/Wireless 2100/2200. It works
fine "out of the box", with no problems.

Except the only way for him to switch to PRO/Wireless, AFAIK, is to get
a new laptop. Not exactly the solution he's looking for.

Yes, probably, but I'm just providing the info in case it might be
useful. I suspect there might be other cards using a similar chipset
(e.g., Intel PRO/Wireless 2225), but Intel does seem to have limited it
mostly to built-in wireless adapters.

I know (although I've already mentioned to him a couple of times that my IPW2200 works well). If you do find a card using that chipset, I'd like to know also. I know someone else who could use one.

If I was going to recommend another chipset, I think it would be Prism. But then I've mentioned that as well.
