Yeah, the Cisco <meaningless number here> would do the trick, and Cisco TAC is
generally very good and worth the $. But we are talking a switch here.

I recently bought a few Dell managed switches to replace some old Cisco 2924
switches. I am so far pretty happy with them.... and I have no affinity to
Dell, I hate their lease department (can't do math or read), their consumer
helpdesk is off-shore and terrible, I prefer Proliant server hardware to the
Dells (countless reasons). I have to say that I have called for support on the
switches, and they were speedy and knowledgable (business support is not
off-shore)

I bought these models and am happy with them. I collect data from them via SNMP
v2c, but the switches support v3.

PowerConnect 5324 = 24port all GigE fully mananged (SNMP, SSH cli and web
interface) around $769, plus support. I did a mirror port on this one to do IDS
as well.

PowerConnect 3448 = 48port 10/100 + 2 GigE + 2 SFP fully mananged as above.
around $525, plus support

Good Luck,
Mike

Quoting Tracy R Reed <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

We currently have crappy switches and we need to buy some more. I need a few 24 port switches that are managed, can do snmp, port mirroring (ie. to run an IDS like snort), fast backplane, vlan, etc. Some of these will be used for an AoE based SAN so we will want gig-e. Although some of them would probably be ok with 100Mb ports with a gig-e interconnect. Any recommendations? I am sure Cisco has something that would work and it is named by some useless 4 digit number. We would be willing to consider other quality brands as well since the Cisco name usually costs a premium.
