If I may ask a possibly dumb question....

Why does anyone blog?
Most bloggers aren't getting paid and they
have no marketing office.... The only hope
for readership is by word of mouth which will
only happen if they are exceptional and get
peoples' attention.

I'm amazed anyone willingly
walks that lonely valley.... they may go
months (years?) before getting "noticed" by
the world.
To communicate.

My son now lives in London. I keep up with his adventures through his LiveJournal site On those few occassions I still write anything, he can follow my daily activities, too. My friend has a moderate readership, mostly friends whose Weblogs are on the same system, as I used to have when I was active at it. Each Weblog system builds up its own community. There is a fairly active one dedicated to Linux on LiveJournal, mostly pleas for help.

My son carries a computer, or gets access to one, wherever he travels. His Weblog is a home base for him, a place where prople can find him when they want to. Like most Webloggers, he doesn't particularly want the world to notice ... he just has a few things to share with family and a few friends.

I got into it as an experiment. Perhaps I should try to be more active, but I'm not sure I really had anything to say. I just wanted to find out what this new medium was (to which I had received multiple invitations).
