Whose advice was that? IIRC the recommendation was to buy a
firewall/router UNLESS you either needed really fine-grain rules OR
wanted to leatn how a Linux firewall works.

I've done both, and while I am grateful for the experience before, I'm
equally grateful for the convenience now.

FWIW, it was a 2-slot 486 w/ 16 M RAM.
