ntp will actually work out what the consistent drift in your clock is and cancel it out. It's that good. However, if you really are drifting that badly, it's probably time to replace the battery on the motherboard.

How long does it have to run before it works out "what the consistent drift in your clock is and cancel it out"? I'm on a dial-up connection and can't really leave it connected all the time.
