Um, is there a reason why nobody has mentioned the "-k" option to man?
It has the advantage that it tells you what section the page is in.

Example at end of mail.

As an aside, I *detest* programs like Perl and Tcl that crap manpages
for every stinking Perl or Tcl module into my system directories.


I presume that deep down inside you know that "apropos" and "man -k"
are synonyms.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ man man | grep -- -k | head -1
      -k     Equivalent to apropos.
