As a result of my @4yr old laptop starting to exhibit its age I took a look at the state of the notebook market and I noticed a lot of good deals out there. However it also appears that the current notebook market, as far as Intel goes, is about to change because they are going to begin basing their notebooks on lower voltage L7400 and L7200 as well as an ultra low voltage processor later this month. Currently Core 2 Duo notebook processors are the full voltage T-series that suck the life out of batteries...

None the less for a replacement to a desktop PC, if they give a big enough break in price between the Core 2 Duo T-series processors and the L-series and U-series units it might be worth it especially if you can get more RAM from the price differential. I also notice that the new lower voltage processors are fully enabled for virtualization. That is actually the thing I am most interested in and for that purpose the more RAM the better even if you have to drop back 10 and punt on the Core 2 Duo processor speed.

That's my take on what I have read so far and why I think waiting 3-6 months to get a new laptop is a good idea at this point. Does this assessment as to where things are in the notebook market comport with what you all on the list see for notebooks in the next year or so?

Tia for your tips!
