Bob, I think you had better get some sleep ;-) You misinterpreted the
question.
The '[0-9]' and '[A-Z]' are standard regex notations for character
classes, respectively any one of the 10 digits, and any one of the 26
cap-letters. I'm sure you know that, you're just not reading with both
eyes and all your brain (eh?).
ummm, now I'll be embarrassed if RS comes back and says _I_ misread the
problem!!!

LOL, now we both won't be able to get to sleep until Ralph
clears up our confusion. Of course, Ralph being not quite
so crazy, has probably already gone to sleep.
LOL! Being a locksmith on-call, I sometimes don't have time to get
online. Often, I pose my question to the list and check back later. I
realize that nobody on the list is online all the time and it sometimes
takes a while for good answers to accumulate.
This was for an ongoing personal project that no doubt will take me
weeks (or months) to accomplish (since most other substitutions must be
verified). But since it is a personal project with no time constraints,
this is not a big deal. But inserting " " in all those thousands of
places was much more tedious and didn't need verification beyond the
first couple of dozen or so.
