I'm saddened by the fact that Sun can spend tens of millions to buy rights
to Star[Open]Office and *give* it away.....yet somehow such an expensive
gift still "threatens" people.

It is only in my craziest fantasies that people feel "threatened" if
someone tries to give them my competitor's product for free instead of my
over-priced one.
